Special-Services

Steele Creek ordinarily has special Worship Services on the following occasions:

Ash Wednesday – Forty days before Easter (not counting Sundays). An evening worship service is held to commemorate this occasion.

Pentecost – The birthday celebration for the Christian Church is recognized. All are encouraged to wear the symbolic color, red, to remember this event.

Steele Creek Community Lenten Services - Each Wednesday during the Lenten Season, one of the five Steele Creek Area Presbyterian Churches hosts a Worship Service at 12:00 Noon. The five churches are Steele Creek, McClintock, Pleasant Hill, Mount Olive, and Central Steele Creek.

Scottish Heritage Sunday – Usually on the third Sunday of September. In recognition of the establishment of the Presbyterian Church by Scotland, the family tartans are paraded through the Sanctuary and a Kirkin’ of the Tartans ceremony ends the service. A bagpiper and beadle are on hand to recall this early church tradition. Lunch follows the 10:30 AM Worship Service.

Palm Sunday – The Sunday before Easter a celebration of Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem is acted out by the children.

All Saints Day - Usually in late October, this special service recognizes all members who have joined the church triumphant during the past year. Candles are lit in their memory by family members and a brief eulogy for each former member is offered.

Maundy Thursday – An evening service reminds us of the gathering of the Disciples at the Last Supper.

Christmas Music – On the third Sunday in December, the choirs present special music of the Advent Season. Often they are accompanied by special instruments.

Easter Sunday – Special music by the Chancel and other choirs celebrate this Sunday Service. Often special instruments accompany the choir. A Cross decorated with flowers replaces the bare Cross. Holy Communion is served.

Christmas Eve Lovefeast and Candle Lighting service - An evening service on December 24 prepares us for Christmas day. Following a special meditation, a Moravian style Lovefeast with cider and buns is served while Christmas hymns are sung. A beautiful candle lighting service concludes the evening as the congregation sings Joy to the World.
